Sheldon is a small cat with a purrmanent look of surpurrise. He has hydrocephalus, mild cerebellar hypoplasia, a cleft lip and nose, and a heart murmur. But when we look at him, we just see LOVE.
KATNISS: Sheldon, you and your siblings were rescued by Texas Special Needs Pets amidst a shelter outbreak of panleukopenia. You were quarantined for two weeks. It’s meowraculous that you didn’t come down with that pawtentially deadly disease.
SHELDON: Yes, we were very furtunate. We then moved into a foster home which I am now purroud to call my furever home. While my birth siblings were adopted out together, I stayed behind, having bonded with my foster pawrents and two special needs fursiblings.
KATNISS: Paisley and Penny. Tell me about them.
SHELDON: Paisley has CH like me, as well as malfurmed kneecaps, minimal vision and a chronic herpes virus infection. Penny also has CH and limb weakness. Sometimes she has tremors when eating. I absolutely adore my sweet sisters and love them just the way they are.
KATNISS: You sound very purrtective of them.
SHELDON: As they are of me. Luckily, we’ve received lotst of love and kind words on the Internet. We may be diffurent than other cats and require meowr care, but I think people recognize that our lives have value.
KATNISS: I think people also recognize cuteness when they see it. Sheldon, tell me some of the cute things you do.
SHELDON: Well, I sleep curled up with my pawrents every night – unless I wake up with the zoomies. I make silly faces and gutturel chirpy sounds to amewse the Humans. I can barely jump. And when I run, I trot.
KATNISS: You’re a goofball! No wonder you’re so pawpular with the Humans.
SHELDON: Hey, If people see my face and smile, that brings me joy. It might better if they brought me chicken, but I’m content with joy. MOL!
