This year, we lost beloved Internet celebricats as well as new faces we fell in love with… only to lose. 

We’re really feline it this year…

ALIEN CAT MATILDA. This supurr famous feline with the celestial eyes (which were remewved due to discomfurt) left our earthly plane and headed back to her home planet.

ANNIE. Milo’s Sanctuary & Special Needs Cat Rescue’s senior resident Annie lived an impurresive 18 years, although that wasn’t enough time fur the humans who loved her.

ASLAN. This Internet favorite ginger boi purrvided repurresentation for cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia and Acromegaly. 

AUGGIE. Little Augustus was rescued by Second Chance Strays Cat Rescue & Lounge. Unfurtunately, living with hydrocephalus took a toll on the struggling kitten.

BABY BIRD. Thanks to Rafiki’s Rescue, Baby Bird became a beloved Internet supurrstar, touching the hearts of many. She passed from feline Sarcoidosis.

BARRY. A napper by trade, Barry was living his best life with his fursiblings and humans when he passed from a tumor that metastasized.

BASIL, THERAPY CAT. Basil was a purrfessional therapy cat who lived her life in service of others. She passed from cancer and now “works from the Rainbow Bridge.”

BENZO THE CAT. Benzodiazepine was known for her feisty demeowner and cattitude which never failed to amewse her fans. 

BETTY THE WEATHER CAT. She became an Internet sensation in 2020 when she appurred on camera during her Meteorologist Dad, Jeff Lyons’ weather repurrt. 

BIJOUX, NOVA and PLUTO. Often refurred to as the Galactic Crew, these sweet kitties had us rooting fur them, but their battles were too great too overcome.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BOO CAT. She was rescued as a kitten from atop a roof. A day after she turned 19, Boo joined her brother, Little Man, at the Rainbow Bridge.

BRONSON. We fell in love with him the furst time we saw him standing there. We fell even further as we followed his weight loss journey and were devastated when he passed of blood cancer.

BUTTERS. The purrecious orange boi lived a well-loved life until his neurological loss had progressed to a point where he was having trouble breathing and was humanely euthanized. 

CAPTAIN PATCH. As a spokespurrson fur the Amazing Acro-Cats Cat Circus, Captain Patch, a furmer street cat, was an outspoken advocat fur special needs cats. He died from complications from lymphoma.

CHERNOBYL. Baby Cher had a short life, but made a big impurression in the time she was here, working her job as CEO of being a cutie pie.

CHLOE. This sweet and feisty grrrl lived until age 15. She had been the longest resident at the adoption center befur finding the purrfect furever home. 

CLEO. This supurr fluffy kitty was the star of the viral TikTok “piggy dippin’ at the piggy pond” video. She has left little wet piggy pawprints on our hearts.

COOTER. Known as the “talking kitty” on TikTok, Cooter always had something to commeownicate. Sadly, he passed of a brain aneurysm or blood clot.

CUCHO. This big, brave and beautiful boi reluctantly left his Human servants, who had done a meowr than serviceable job attending to his every desire.   

DAMMIT THE CAT. The senior sistfur to Dusty the Campfire Cat, Dammit was a black “void” cat who passed from Chronic Kidney Disease.

DENNIS REYNOLDS aka JACK SHRUNKLE. We are grateful to have been graced with his purresence, even though it was only fur a short time.

DIRT. Dirtbag aka Dirt the Railroad Cat rose to Internet stardom as the mascot of the Nevada Northern Railway. Visitors from around the world fell in love with the dirt-covered feline, who passed away from old age. After his death, a statue was unveiled so that his purrescence could be felt eternally.  

DUO THE TWO-FACED CAT. Duo was a rare Janus cat, a condition known as craniofacial duplication. But she didn’t know she was any diffurent. She lived most of her life out of the spotlight, as a regular housecat.

EDGAR. This sweet, gremlin-faced Lykoi passed peacefully in his bed. 

EGGS. This orange boi struggled with diabetes. We won’t soon furget his journey… and when he went camping.

ELOISE. The beloved cat of Kitten Lady Hannah Shaw, Eloise passed peacefully while “lying in a sunbeam in the arms of her guardians.”

FELIX THE HUDDERSFIELD STATION CAT. She shot to fame after a Facebook page dedicat-ed to her was created by a commewter. As the station’s Senior Pet Controller, she raised hundreds of thousands of pounds fur charity, completed a 5km run and was a meowdel for charity calendars. She will be missed by travelers from all over the world.

FENNEC FOX. The impawsibly cute foster kitty, Fennec Fox, will be remembered for her scraggly appurrance and half of a bottom jaw.

FINN. This sphynx brother to Edgar and Shuggie fell ill and left his HuMom heartbroken and wishing for meowr time together. 

FRANKIE. A furmer street cat with a kind and trusting soul, Frankie was a Milo’s Sanctuary mainstay who learned to trust the kind volunteers who cared fur him.

GALE. He was a ginger munchkin boi who starred in many YouTube MB videos including the pawpular “10 Years of Pure Love.”

GEORGE THE KITTEN. There is no delicat way to describe George’s condition; he was born without a butthole. His foster meowm loved him and gave him the best care in the short time he was here.

GIZMO. After battling stage four kidney failure and feline infectious peritonitis, Gizmo passed away in his HuMom’s arms with his family by his side. 

GRAVESKULL THE PERSIAN. This pretty Purrsian calico grrrl had the grompiest face that we will miss on our social media feed.

GREY. Along with his fursibling Moonrock, Grey started life as a foster with the ameowzing Beth Stern. Sadly, Grey passed suddenly, likely as a consequence of a head injury he had received befur he was rescued.

GRIMM. He may have lost his battle with FeLV, but his meowmory lives on as his FB account continues to spread awareness fur FeLV, Porphyria and other cat-related viruses and disorders. 

HANK THE DAMP CAT. Hank was famous fur looking extra moist… and no one knows why. TikTok will never be the same without his constant bleps.

HORST. This handsome vampurr lived until 17, which is impurressive considering he suffured from Thyroid Disease. We will always remeowmber him and the way he wore his collar so purroudly.

KENSIE. She was an 16 year old deaf Turkish Angora known fur her pawpular YouTube and TikTok videos.

KING KASPURR. HRH King Kaspurr of Arlington, MA passed away peacefully at home due to kidney failure. He will be remeowmbered as a majestic floof who meowdled for calendars, grooming and pet purroducts and fur being a gentle, nurturing soul.

LEGGYLU. Lu’s “leg-acy” is that she meowraculously had five legs… and a pawsitive, loving soul. 

LILO. Another sweet hydrocephalus furbaby and member of SHAHS got her wings this year when a vet took her life unnecessarily.

LITTLE MAN. Born with cerebellar hypoplasia, he could barely walk, but he was so loved by the DiPaolo family and lived a full life.

LOUIE. He was the floofiest, handsomest rescue boi. We were shocked and saddened when he went into cardiac arrest hours before a scheduled ultrasound.

MAGAMAM. The Matriarch of MoShow the Cat Rapper’s cats unfurtunately left her family as the result of heart failure.

MASHED POTATO. The sweet faced kitty with pink bonkers on her arms fought hard but eventually commewnicated to her rescuer that it “was time.”

MEGAMIND. This sweet handicat was known for his purrsistance as he raced around on wheels. Mega will furever be remembered as having “a heart as big as his head.”

MIMOE NO. This 18 ½ year old senior pet purrsonified the motto “love never grows old.” He was part of The Grannie Project, a nonpurrofit which advocats fur rescue, then rehomes senior pets.

MINNIE. This ginger grrrl was diffurently-abled, but her diagnosis remained a mystery until she was finally found to have Myositis. She was loved and accepted just as she was until the very end.

MORTON. As an FIV positive cat, Morton would have been instantly euthanized at the local shelter. Instead, he found the purrfect HuMom who gave him the full, pampurred life he deserved.

MOHAWK KEVIN. This TikTok famous cutie was known for his spikey hair style. We were feline all the feels when he passed due to water on the brain.

MR. SNOWBOWTIES. This charming gentlepurrson rocked a bowtie and one eye like no other. He passed from oral squamous cell carcinoma.

NORMAL THE CAT. He was “goofy and sweet” with a purrpetually silly face that made us smile. He died after complications from surgery.

OATBOI. Otis Oublie Oden, aka Oatboi, started as a dirty, matted rescue and became a beloved Internet star with fans following his daily antics.  

PANCAKE STICKYPAWS. This sweet special needs kitty with hydrocephalus and seizures was a featured celebricat at CatCon this past year in Los Angeles.   

POOKY. This sweet and snuggly Ragdoll/British Shorthair mixed Munchkin kitty left her pawrents suddenly at the age of 7 and the Internet is now a sadder place.

POTATO. His ears had been remewved due to tumors, giving him a mewnique look. He had a pawsome quality of life until passing from kidney failure. 

QUEEN LILY. Lily took the Internet by storm in 2021, ameowssing a huge following on both TikTok and Instagram. She passed away at 23 years of age.

ROOKIE. She was a purrfectly impurrfect rescue cat from Australia who will furever be remeowmbered for her scratchy little meows.

ROSWELL. Leela’s un-fursibling Roswell passed from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) but his meowmeries live on on YouTube.

RUSSELL W. GRISWOLD III. This 2 lb. permakitten was diagnosed with megacolon. Although he didn’t make it, his Meowm and Cat Dad carry on his legacy through Nomadic Paws Kitten Rescue.

SAD BOY. It was a sad day when this sad-faced beloved furmer street cat left us after an inoperable mass was discovfured in his abdomen. 

SAMSAM. Sweet Sammy passed peacefully at home and is now free of illness and discomfurt after battling a cancer diagnosis.

SASHA. Because he had a rare disease called MPS (mucopolysaccharidosis), Sasha was never expected to live all 9 of his lives, but this tiny boy created a big awareness for his disease. 

SHUGGIE. Edgar the Lykoi’s fursibling, Shuggie, succumbed to FIP.  We are grateful she is now free of discomfurt.

SIMBA THE OFFICE CAT. Simba was part Maine Coon and full-time purrfessional office worker. He passed from a heart condition at the age of 13.

SQUIGGY. This smol rescue boi never grew the way he should and his body finally gave way. We appurrciate everything his Cat Dad, David, did for him.

STELLA. As the sister to celebricat Nala Cat, the lovely cow-spotted Stella had been slowing down and struggling with stomach issues as she reached the end of her 9 lives.

STEVE B. His fans loved to follow his amewsing antics on social media and were saddened when he passed from cancer this year.

SUPER HERO. The namesake of Super Hero’s Animal Hydrocephalus Society (SHAHS) passed, but his supurr nonpurrofit organization lives on.

TATER TOT. The tiny rescued kitty with mismatched colored casts (lovingly refurred to as “bonkers”) became an instant Internet sensation as he encouraged others to “keep going out of spite.” 

TEDDY. With his long limbs and silly honking sounds, Teddy was hissterical. But in addition to being an Internet supurrstar who made us all smile, he was also a beloved pet.  

TOAST. This meowjestic floofy boi was rescued from Egypt. He went from rejected to respected and deeply loved by his furever family and passed due to “old age.” 

TOM-TOM aka BUBBA. Katie Cat Sims’ elder cat passed peacefully on his cat tree, his belly full of his favfurite treats.

TOOTHLESS NUGGET. You may remeowmber this story – a woman went into a shelter and asked which cat had been there the longest. That cat was Nugget. The heartwarming video of him snuggling in his new furever home went viral on TikTok. Sadly, Nugget passed from osteosarcoma.

VLADIMIR THE VAMPIRE CAT. Vlad was a handsome vampurr cat with a fangtastic smile we won’t soon furget..

ZOMBIE. With his impawsibly cute expurressions, Zombie lived an impurressive 8+ years after a subtotal colectomy. He lived his life as a role meowdel for megacolon cats.

This article and video are dedicat-ed to Ashley Morrison, aka The Youngest Old Cat Lady, whose life “centered around cat rescue, fostering, adoption and spreading joy through humor.” Ashley died by suicide on April 6, 2023. She is now mewnited with all the above featured cats, the kittens of Meows of Hope, and each and every beloved cat and kitten that passed this year.
