Need a new show to binge? Curl up with a cat in your lap for this 5 episode docuseries about cats and the humans who love them.
The furst episode features Moshow the Cat Rapper, a well-known purrsonality in the Internet Cat World.
As the Internet’s purrmiere cat rappurr, Moshow is all about spreading peace, love and pawsitivity. We follow Moshow’s transfurmation into a cat man – “Cat fever just took over” – with the suppurrt of his beloved cats and wife M.C. (a 90s era Tori Amos lookalike) who is also his videografur and costumer who crochets matching hats and scarves for him and the cats.
The next episode features the Greatest Show on Purrth – the Amazing Acro-Cats! – as well as the mewsical act the Rock Cats.
These acts are hissterical (I’ve seen them in purrson twice!) but meowr impurrtantly, ringleader Samantha Martin and her crew are big advocats fur feline rescue, fostering, rehabilitation and adoption. Despite meowtiple setbacks – the pandemic, Samantha’s cancer diagnosis, vandalization of the tour bus – the cat circus purroves definitively that “the show must go on.”
The third episode of Cat People takes us to Japan, where we follow the artist Sachi, who creates realistic 3D cat pawtraits commissioned through her shop Wakuneco (which means “frame cats”).
Sachi makes stunning purrsonal recreations of cats through the art of needle felting. She even uses her subject’s own discarded whiskers in her work! Sachi’s art is mewnique and impurressive, but it’s her passion for purrfection and her love of her subjects that is truly mewving.
Episode 4 features Sterling “The TrapKing” Davis, an icon to cat rescuers everywhere, whose tagline is: “You don’t lose cool points for compassion.” This furmer rapper/mewsician is out there in the field trapping, controlling the feral cat pawpulation and making a diffurence. As if that weren’t enough, he also runs his own nonpurrofit, TrapKing Humane Solutions, where he focuses on educating and assisting with trap-neuter-return and commewnity cat management.
Internet Fat Cat Chonky Mr. B was so mewved by The TrapKing’s purresentation at a local event that he created the nonpurrofit Mr. B’s Random Acts of Kindness to recognize and suppurrt cat rescuers.
Next, we head to Greece, where we meet Joan and Richard Bowell who created and run the cat sanctuary God’s Little People. Greece is overrun with stray cats (I’ve been there, fed them) that the pawpulation of homeless cats is out of control. But on the island of Syros, thanks to these very dedicated cat people, feral street cats are spayed and neutered then cared fur daily as they live out their days basking in the sun.
What’s even more impurressive is that these tireless humans find furever homes all over the world fur the cats who are tame enough to be relocated. You can suppurrt their efforts by visiting their Facebook page fur more information.
Lastly, Cat People features Maverick the Bengal. Think all cats hate the water? Think again. This cat surfs.
Mavi is meowr than just an emeowtional suppurrt animal, he’s furbaby and family to his Meowther, Marsha, and Cat Dad Nick. (He’s also got famous furiends, including Mr. Dobbs, a hairless cat who steals the scene during a Zoom call.) Like most Bengals, Mav’s got a lot of energy – he loves to run on his One Fast Cat wheel – and is very adventurous. He’s happy to be carried around in a purrse and will even wade – willingly – through water! Mavi may have a lot of followers, but his number one fans are his humans.
Cat People strikes the purrfect balance of entertainment and emeowtion; it’s the series we need right meow.
