BLACKY THE WHEELCHAIR CAT - Nothing is Impawsible

Blacky is a one-eyed cat who gets around with the help of a wheelchair. He is a born charmer who loves people… almost as much as his catnip banana.

This Cat Knows How to Get Around.

KATNISS: Blacky, after you were hit by a car, the vet recommended euthanasia – which really makes me want to hiss! – but your mum wasn’t ready to give up on you.

BLACKY: Yes, the vet said I should be put to sleep, but my mum found another vet that saw past my disability to the happy cat I am underneath. This vet treated me like I was no different than the others. With time and love, I regained some use of my bladder and some feeling in my feet. I still can’t walk, but my mum says I’m purrfect just as I am.

KATNISS: After kindly humans pitched in online to help you get a wheelchair, you now make it a point to give back.

BLACKY: Yes! So many pitched in to help meowt that we now give back through random acts of kindness. We started auctions to raise money to help others the way I was helped. I posed in the ugliest hats and rocked them like a king. Sadly, no one wanted the dreadful hats. They said, “Keep them – please – but here’s a donation.” MOL.

KATNISS: And you help humans, not just cats, right?

BLACKY: Yes! We’ve raised enough money to donate $1,000 worth of toys to single parent families for Christmas. We did a “feed hungry campaign” with another $1,000 to local families. We’ve donated food and grocery items to the Salvation Army. We’ve given Easter chocolates to children through a local Facebook group. We’ve also done a pet drive where we donated $3,000 worth of of food and pet items to a local shelter. All of this was made possible through a few online contests we won and by selling Blacky mugs and tee shirts and wristbands.

KATNISS: You are quite the felinethropist!

BLACKY: I enjoy helping others. I also really enjoy pizza, but that’s another story.

KATNISS: You’re an inspurration not just to other felines, but to Humans with disabilities as well.

BLACKY: I have many suppurrters with disabilities. There are also cancer sufferers that follow me. I have often by told that if it weren’t for me, they wouldn’t be here today – that I taught them courage. If I can, they can.

KATNISS: Wow, that’s a really ameowzing gift you have. Speaking of gifts… I know you like to wear hats. Not the ugly ones that didn’t sell, but cute ones and ones that fans send to you.

BLACKY: Oh, I love hats! My favorite is mum’s hat cause it smells like mum. I also have Dr. Suess hat – I am the real Cat in the Hat! I even have a hat stand and a wardrobe of hats. I come running when mum has a hat for me. It feels nice on my ears.
